Somebody's saving you a seat.

Dave Gensman has run the Green Owl since 1995, the same spot his mother bought in 1983. Some of the 250-plus owls on the walls were gifts from the people eating next to you.

Our story

Forty-plus years of mornings.

Locals call it a real-life Cheers. The Green Owl started as a little health food counter, became a family breakfast place, and never stopped being the spot where Delray says good morning.

  2. 1983Carol Savage buys the restaurant.
  3. 1995Her son, Dave Gensman, takes over the counter. He still runs it today.
  4. 2016After decades on Atlantic Avenue, the Owl moves around the corner to 11 SE 4th Avenue.
  5. TodayDowntown Delray lists the Green Owl as one of its Legacy Businesses.
